ドイツの機械翻訳：DeepL
皆さんは他言語と日本語間の翻訳は何をお使いでしょうか？私は「一朝一夕 英語」というような感じでググって１番上に出てくるGoogle翻訳の結果を参照しますが、「ちょっと違うかも？」と思うことが少なからずあるので、その下に出てくるweblioの結果と例文などを見て最も適切だと思われる単語を選んでいます。そんな中、おそらく3月末くらいに見たiTmediaのニュースにディープラーニングを活用したドイツ発の機械翻訳サービス『DeepL』が日本語にも対応し、Googleなどの翻訳サービスと比べて高い評価を受けていて、「敬語をちょっと直すだけでほぼ完璧な翻訳」「かなり自然な訳文」とのことで気になっていました。
そして先月末、仕事で比較的長い日本語を英語に翻訳する必要があったので『DeepL』を使ってみたのですが、ホント、見事に自然な英語に訳してくれ、必要最少限の部分だけ修正すせばよくて迅速に対応でき、米国の担当者から個人的にお礼のメールを貰っちゃいましたよ（もちろん、英語の優劣ではなく対応の速さでですが）。
その後も、細かく読むのが俄かには面倒に思えるような長文の英語を一旦『DeepL』で日本語に翻訳し、サクッと内容を日本語で把握してから英文を読み始めると、理解度が早く高くて良い感じで「仕事の効率がアップすること間違いなし」だと思いました。
Gigazineの記事「めちゃくちゃ精度が高いと話題の機械翻訳『DeepL翻訳』に日本語の翻訳機能が登場したので実際に使ってみた』には、実際に試した日本語・英語間の翻訳結果が載ってて詳しく解説されていますので、興味がある人は眺めてみて下さい。
ちなみに昨日の日記『鬼滅の刃』をDeepLで翻訳した無修正の英文は以下のようになります。

This morning, I was watching "Zip!" on Nittelevision when it said, "The Blade of Onigiri" has made the first-ever achievement! In the Oricon Book Rankings for the First Half of 2020, it was ranked No. 1 in both the comic and book categories.
Moreover, as for the comics, "Onigetsu no Tsubasa" swept from the first place to the 19th place, and all 19 comics sold over 2 million copies! In last year's ranking, there were only three works that sold more than one million copies, which is astounding even if you think about it.
And "The Blade of Onisuna" is not limited to the comic, "Onisuna no Blade Katahane no Butterfly" and "Onisuna no Blade Shiawase no Hana" (both written by Yoseharu Gotoge and Aya Yajima) dominated the "Oricon First Half Book Ranking 2020" first and second place in the "First Half Book Ranking 2020", the first time in history that a comic novelized work has dominated the "First Half Book Ranking" and the first and second place since the counting began in 2008.
Actually, I haven't read any comics or novelized works, but I've been watching the anime recently on Amazon Prime Video. It wasn't that I was originally interested in it, but every time Hoshina, who was waiting at home for a part-time job in Shinkoro, looked at each other, she would say, "Onihimimi? She repeated, "I'll watch it with you, just watch the first two episodes! I was more insistent than ever, so I got up and started watching it. As a result, I watched a lot of it with Hoshina afterwards and ended up watching it until episode 18 of season 1.
The reason why "The Blade of Onigiri" is so interesting and popular, in Hoshina's words, is

In addition to the sad scenes and battle scenes, there are many interesting scenes that make you feel at ease.
The pictures of the battle scenes are beautiful.
It has become one of our common hobbies and interests, so we will continue to watch it. It looks like the movie is coming out in October, but I'm going to go see it with Hoshina (laughs).
